About Wangat

Wangat Lodge and cottages is a unique 50 acre property of pristine sub-tropical rainforest and wildlife sanctuary, with the ever flowing Chichester River running through. There are so many ways to enjoy Wangat. Hire our large Lodge for a group of families and friends; hold a retreat, or have an intimate stay in one of our beautiful eco-cottages.

You can attend our annual outdoor Shakespearience performance, or stay at our incredible Bird Language retreats.

The owner and manager of Wangat Lodge, Dan Lyons, is also a Youth worker, bush adventure therapist and outdoor educator. He has created some incredible programmed, mentor driven Family camps and Teen camps, which create community and connection. See the School Holidays tab for info. Or inquire about your school holding an outdoor education camp here.

However you come, your stay at Wangat will give you time and space to immerse in nature, properly connect, and create memories away from the hustle and bustle of busy life.

Located at the foot of the Barrington Tops World Heritage National Park, Wangat is just 1.5 hours from Newcastle and 3 hours from Sydney. Close enough to drive after work on Friday, and far enough to forget the city life and feel fully immersed in the forest.

The sign asks “have you really slowed down?” both to protect our resident padymelons, wallabies and koalas; but also as a reminder to leave your devices at home, and move at the pace of the sun.

Wake and enjoy your morning coffee to bird song. Meander down the multiple paths through the rainforest, to the edge of the spectacular Chichester River. With 1km of river front to explore you can: swim in the pebbly river beach of Platypus Pool, plunge into the deep swimming holes in Figtree Pool, play in fun rapids, or enjoy the stillness of the bridge of silence.

Away from wifi, kids find new ways to play, connect and explore nature when here. While adults find a place to unwind. Enjoy the wonder of finding delicate ferns, trees covered in incredible epiphytes, the softness of giant moss, a mushroom garden, twisted roots of strangler figs, scores of bird species… the list goes on!

Dan, The team at Wangat, and the beautiful forest, all can’t want to have you stay. See you soon.
